A secondary varietal of the Bordeaux blend, it is rare to find petit verdot worked in purity, but when this happens, and especially when those who work it know what they are doing, labels of certain appeal are to be expected. The "San Cristoforo," Petit Verdot di Toscana produced by "Podere San Cristoforo", is precisely one of those wines that never betrays expectations. It ferments spontaneously in steel and rests for ten months in old French oak barrels. Elegant and expressive, it brings out the softer and more pleasant side of the fruit, which goes along with a long persistence, and then meets those precious references given by the passage in wood. When you are looking for a wine that is not the usual red of Tuscany, and when you want a thick drink, the "San Cristoforo" is the most suitable answer. Fabulous.
Tasting Notes: Intense ruby red to the eye. The nose initially lets you perceive deep fruity notes, reminiscent of plums, sour cherries and blood orange, then followed by hints of herbs, spicy nuances and balsamic memories. The palate is supported by an elegant tannic texture, well balanced between freshness and savoriness, as fruity as the nose in the aftertaste.
Pairings: Pairs well with courses of noble poultry or game. Excellent with guinea fowl with Taggiasca olives.
