Trentino Alto Adige

Trentino-Alto Adige is characterized by a very high percentage of quality wines, as much as 75% of the total production, but what is even more striking is the wide range of planted vines and types of wine produced.
In 2009 the production was about 1,254,000 hl of wine, with a minimal prevalence of red.
Thegrape varietythe most cultivated is in fact the schiava, from which, especially in the area around Lake Caldaro, colored wines are obtainedrubyrather transparent, with a subtle scent of cherry and almond and a delicate onestructure.
But South Tyrol is known everywhere above all for its fragrant white wines, obtained from symbolic vines such as gewurztraminer, born in the vineyards around Tramin, muller-thurgau, kerner, veltliner, as well as pinot grigio and pinot bianco. , chardonnay and sauvignon, to name but a few. Among the aromatic grapes we can also remember the yellow muscat and the pink muscat, which give excellent Passito and late harvests, more or less sweet wines, but always with a rich aromatic background and a pleasant softness.
Among the red grape varieties, the autochthonous lagrein is also experiencing an excellent moment, from which beautiful rosé wines are obtained, but above all reds with arubycompact, scents of plum and violet jams on alightbackgroundherbal, Greatstructureand well-defined tannins, Even the international merlot, cabernet and pinot noir are always up to the occasion, able to combinestructureand elegance. In addition to exploiting an ampelographic base similar to that of the Alto Agide, Trentino produces red wines especially based on teroldego and marzemino, with characteristics ofstructureand different longevity depending on the area for the first, always rather delicate and to be appreciated in youth for the second, produced in particular in Vallagarina.
Here too there is no shortage of fine dessert wines, above all the Vino Santo produced in the valley of the lakes from the nosiola,grape varietyautochthonous with white grapes.
Last but not least, one of the productions that distinguishes this region is that of sparkling winesClassic method, especially based on chardonnay and only partly pinot noir, to which Trento is entirely dedicatedDOC.
