The village of Castelgiocondo dominates from above the historic Frescobaldi estate in Montalcino, an ancient stronghold built in 1100 to defend the road from the sea to Siena. A historic place, it is in fact one of the first four estates where the production of Brunello di Montalcino began in 1800. The estate is located in an ideal terroir for sangiovese and the great wines produced here: the vineyards dwell at heights between 300 and 400 meters, the well-drained soils have the sunny and favorable southwest exposure. In the vineyard maniacal care, high densities and low yields make it possible to produce a great Brunello, with an elegant fabric and admirable longevity. From the Ripe al Convento vineyard, at an altitude between 350 and 450 m, comes this wine, the result of scrupulous selection that begins in the vineyard and continues in the cellar with the manual sorting of each grain. A Brunello Riserva with a strong personality and extraordinary longevity, whose maturation takes place partly in Slavonian oak barrels and partly in French oak barriques, and which in the glass astonishes not only for its elegance but also for its strength and persistence.
Tasting Notes.: Deep ruby red with slight garnet highlights. The elegant nose articulates complex sensations of balsamic notes and small red fruits that evolve toward tobacco, dark chocolate and licorice root. The palate reveals an important structure characterized by soft, well-integrated tannins balanced by a balanced acid vein with mineral sensations that give long aromatic persistence and fullness of flavor.
Pairings: Throughout the meal, it goes well with stews, long-cooked meat dishes and aged cheeses.
