Terre Siciliane IGT "Duca Enrico", Nero d'Avola in purity, represented a turning point for Duca di Salaparuta winery and for the whole enology. The first harvest of this nero d'avola dates back to 1984; in those years Duca di Salaparuta, having matured the intention of investing in a new product capable of reaching the highest qualitative expressions, decided to engage in research and experimentation in order to identify those areas, those cultivation and vinification systems best suited to reach that goal as soon as possible. It was immediately evident that the best results were expressed by the potentialities of nero d'avola, prince of Sicilian wines and grape varieties, cultivated in the traditional tree form, in a particular territory such as the plain of Gela. Since then, "Duca Enrico" has become an expression of a very selected nero d'avola, obtained from the best and traditional vineyards cultivated on the clayey and fertile lands of the hinterland of the Gulf of Gela. The fertility and quality of this land favor the cultivation of black grapes, offering, together with the climate, particularly mild in winter and dry in summer, ideal conditions for the nero d'avola to express itself at its best.
