Tenuta San Guido Bolgheri Sassicaia is an absolute excellence, the only wine in Italy to have earned a DOC specific identification: Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC.
This wine from the character enveloping, intense and exciting, it is a real legend of oenology.
It is the best known in the world as it perfectly embodies balance in terms of body e complexity.
It is produced within the San Guido estate, which with its unique impervious terrain, limestone formations and high stony content (from which it gets its name of "sassicaia") has created the perfect conditions for this treasure of enology to germinate.

The name of the estate where the Tenuta San Guido Bolgheri Sassica comes from San Guido della Gherardesca, who lived in the 13th century. It is a historic winery in the area of Bolgheri, which is located along the Etruscan coast in the Maremma region.
The idea of placing vines in this area originates from Mario Incisa della Ricchetta who, fascinated by the Bordeaux, in 1920 dreamed of creating his own thoroughbred wine. This red from the cut Bordeaux style is made from grapes from Cabernet Sauvignon 85% and Cabernet Franc at 15%.
The harvest of the Sassicaia takes place in August and the vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel with about two weeks of maceration on the skins. Following several repassings and délestages, the wine is then aged in oak barrels for 2 years before being left 6 months in bottle. Shimmering ruby coat. Spectacle of odor sensations that gradually stand out on the nose. Captivates with aromas of crisp red fruit swirling between notes of currant and cassis, cherry and traits of peach, ethereal, fluttering sensations of vetiver and damask rose, licorice, a pulsating blanket of fine, sweet spices, Mediterranean scrub, mentholated tobacco and a mineral thread. Direct, truthful and dynamic mouthfeel, supremely balanced, with three-dimensional silky tannin and freshness zizzing through the palate like a thunderbolt. Roaring persistence, you catch it and feel it like a crowd in a theater applauding the most beautiful of plays.

Harvest The harvest, carried out strictly by hand, began in the first ten days of September with the Cabernet Franc grapes, followed by the Sauvignon grapes, completing on October 10 with the grapes from the Castiglioncello vineyards, located above 300 meters above sea level. The grapes arrived at the winery intact and healthy, at temperatures fluctuating between 20 and 23 °C allowing spontaneous fermentations to start gradually.
Fermentation temperature 28-30 °C
Vinification Grape selection by sorting table. Soft and gentle pressing and destemming of the grapes taking care not to break the skin of the berries. Subsequent tumultuous fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperature around 28-30 °C (without any addition of external yeasts). Macerations were protracted for about 13-15 for both Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Repassings and frequent délestages favored aromatic over tannic extraction. Malolactic fermentation in steel completed at end November.
Refinement At the end of the malolactic fermentation the wine was put into barrique French oak, (one-third new wood and the rest, first and second passage) where it spent a period of aging of 24 months in compliance with the production specification, always keeping the masses separated by vineyard provenance. Assembly of the masses just before being destined for the preparatory stages of bottling and subsequent d'aging in glass before marketing.
