Nino Negri
The history of the winery is a century long and, from generation to generation, tells of a strong will and happy intuitions; the two things that gave these wines the opportunity to express all their greatness. The origins of the company date back to 1897, when Nino Negri, a native of Aprica, following his marriage to Amelia Galli, decided to start the wine business in Chiuro. In 1925, the company was registered with the Sondrio Chamber of Commerce and two years later saw the entry of his son Carluccio, the true architect of the development and qualitative growth of 'Nino Negri'. In 1946 the individual company Nino Negri di Carlo Negri was created with the aim of trading wines and grapes with cellars in Chiuro and Moniga del Garda. In 1958, the name was changed again to Carlo Negri's Casa Vinicola Nino Negri. The Chiuro company went from 5-6 employees in the pre-war period to over thirty, to which were added the many seasonal workers in the harvest phase. At the end of the 1960s, it was clear by now that the two daughters Erina and Carla Negri did not intend to support their father in running the company, the company was sold to the Swiss company Winefood. The new structure, however, would not have coincided with a phase of prosperity for the company and in 1986 Winefood decided to sell the Casa Vinicola Nino Negri spa to the Italian Vini scarl Group, a cooperative company born from the union of the wineries that had been owned by the Swiss group. Thus the history of one of the oldest Valtellina wineries (which in 1980 had absorbed the Pelizzatti and in 1992 the Enologica Valtellinese) began again, focusing decisively on a production of quality Valtellina wines. Moving within the now largest Italian winery, the winery founded by Nino Negri was able in the following years to make the most of the redefinition of its product, which includes different qualities of wines. It has thus become the flagship of the Italian Wines Group also thanks to the prestigious work of the oenologist Casimiro Maule (Oenologist of the Year in 2007), in office until 2017, and by Danilo Drocco, who leads the winery to this day.
