One of the largest and important realities of the Cottanera Etneo wine panorama was born, by Francesco Cambria at the beginning of the 1960s, initially as a producer of hazelnuts. The conversion process to the vineyard begins in the 1970s and will be completed after about twenty years. It is Guglielmo Cambria, who with great foresight, leads this change, which involves all corporate plots not only in the change of culture but also in a progressive modernization, with the plant not only of native varieties but also international. In this period the company is also growing up to the current 100 hectares, of which about 65 destined for vineyards. We are on the northern slopes of Etna at an altitude of 730 meters above sea level. Here the vine sinks its millennia roots in the black lands of Etna giving fascinating wines as elegant in revealing their unmistakable Sicilian soul. Among the rows of the cottanera vineyards the nail poles mascalese, paper and inzolia are growing next to Syrah grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Cultivation is conventional but respect for nature, environment and ecosystem are the basis of corporate philosophy. The result is free wines, rich and elegant at the same time, perfect interpreters of a terroir, the Etneus, which gives real oenological pearls.
